Right then, brace yourself for a bit of childhood magic come back to life. I’ve got some wonderful news about my children’s book I wrote ahem 42 years ago (who could believe I was so ancient) when I was a shy little nipper of ten. Yes, really. While other kids were faffing about with spirographs and Smash Hits magazine, I was busy inventing a self-conscious tortoise who worried he walked too slowly to keep up with all his friends. Humphrey was always feeling a bit left behind in life, but now, all these years later, he’s about to take his first big step into the world.

And here’s the brilliant bit: the absolutely marvellous Kylie Dixon MBE - Northeast children’s author, illustrator, and all-round superstar will be bringing Humphrey to life with her beautiful illustrations. I could not be more chuffed if I tried. Kylie, as you may know, is the creative force behind the wonderful Inkcap series, and I just know she’s going to sprinkle something special on Humphrey’s journey. He’s in the very best of hands and I couldn’t be happier.

Illustration work kicks off this November, so I’ll be sharing sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes chaos as we go. Watch this space, because Humphrey’s got his wheels on and he's finally ready to roll.

Let the slow and steady adventure begin.
