Where There’s a Wheel There’s a Way: A Childhood Dream Published

I honestly don’t think there are enough words to describe how proud I am right now.
My children’s book, Where There’s a Wheel There’s a Way, has finally been published… and here’s the bit that still feels completely surreal…
I wrote it over forty years ago, when I was nine.
Nine-year-old me would genuinely not believe this. She’d probably think somebody was having her on and go back to dreaming her dreams and scribbling in her notebook.
Back then I wrote this story because I loved stories. I wasn’t thinking about publishing or launches or ISBN numbers or any of that stuff.
I just had this little dream, and somehow, all these years later, I’m holding it in my hands.
If I’m honest, there’s something incredibly emotional about that. That little girl who sat writing and imagining had absolutely no idea what curveballs life would throw at her. She certainly didn’t know that decades later she’d still believe in books and stories enough to bring that dream to life.
It’s one of those lovely reminders that dreams don’t always arrive on schedule. Sometimes they turn up fashionably late. But they still arrive.
So… to celebrate Humphrey proudly pottering along into the world, I’d absolutely love it if you could join me.
Field & Fodder, Bearpark, Durham, DH7 7AR
27th June 12–2pm
There’ll be cheese and nibbles for the grown-ups (because frankly adulthood should come with cheese wherever possible). There’ll be gifts for the children. There’ll be snacks, activities and plenty to keep little people entertained.
Please come and say hello.
I’ll be the one grinning far too much and probably hugging copies of the book like they’re Pickle the cat.
