North East Indie Book Festival: Books, Brilliant People & Cheese

It's been several weeks since our second North East Indie Book Festival and, quite frankly, I'm still riding the high. Although that could be the cheese. I'm fairly sure I'm still digesting some of it.

What a day!!

Once again, we had the absolute joy of championing the incredible independent literary talent we have right here in the North East. And believe me, there's plenty of it.

The author talks were inspiring, the networking was phenomenal and the atmosphere was everything we'd hoped for and more. Authors, readers and book lovers coming together to celebrate stories, creativity and the sheer determination it takes to get a book out into the world.

And then there was the food. The magnificent Field & Fodder provided a charcuterie spread that can only be described as a work of art. Naturally, I felt it would have been terribly rude not to give it my full attention.

But the biggest thrill was seeing how much our little festival has grown. We sold more than double the number of tickets compared with our first year! Double! And the best bit? We're only just getting started.

There's something rather special about bringing brilliant people together, celebrating independent authors and proving that the North East knows how to put on a cracking literary event.

So here's to next year. More books, more brilliant conversations, more wonderful people and, naturally, more cheese, cake and fizz.

Because culture is important, but so is a decent cheeseboard.

Roll on festival number three. We've got big plans. And stretchy waistbands.
