The follow-up to Playing with Fire – The True Story of the Fireman Scam is officially in the works and we’re deep in the thick of it. It’s been such a different experience this time around — not just because we know what we’re doing now (sort of), but because there’s so much more of the story still to tell. Turns out life doesn’t neatly wrap itself up at the end of a book.
Most days, I’m working on it over the phone with my sister, Coleen which usually involves a lot of typing, a lot of tea and the occasional pause while one of us hunts for a biscuit. These calls have become a lovely rhythm in the middle of the madness and as much as we’re digging back into some pretty tough material, there’s always laughter along the way. (Usually when one of us forgets what day it is.)
But tomorrow… I get to see her in person, no phone line, no screen, just proper sister time. I can’t wait. We’re heading out for lunch and, of course, there will be a few drinks involved.
Writing this next chapter, both literally and emotionally, has been challenging at times, but doing it with my sister makes all the difference. We’ve lived it together and now we get to write through it together too.
Watch this space, more updates (and possibly dessert reviews) coming soon.
