Crear Publishing is thrilled to launch the first-ever North East Indie Book Fest this Saturday! Join us for a lively afternoon of author talks, bookish chat, networking, wine, and fundraising for Women’s Aid Newcastle. With a packed raffle, amazing speakers, and a brilliant indie vibe, it’s set to be a truly special event celebrating independent publishing in the North East.

Crear Publishing was out in South Shields for Write Festival 2025, joining a BIPC panel alongside brilliant authors and publishing pros. We shared our indie publishing insights, connected with passionate creatives, and left with aching feet and buzzing brains. The day sparked exciting conversations and new opportunities, we might just be on the cusp of some fantastic partnerships with indie authors. What a day!

I’m thrilled with the fresh look. The colour scheme has had a glow-up, gone is the soft chick-lit pink, and in its place is something a little bolder, a little darker. It's reflective of where I'm headed creatively.

I’ve always had a soft spot for a good horror story. There’s something strangely comforting about being scared witless, maybe it’s the twisted reassurance that, no matter how chaotic your life is, at least you’re not tearing through the woods in a ripped white nightie, pursued by a maniac with a rusty hatchet.

I’m knee-deep in writing my Christmas novella… which so far involves equal parts typing, Pringles, Wagon Wheels and Classic Corrie (Deirdre’s perm is pure inspiration). The story’s still finding its way, but with a little less faffing and a lot more typing, I’m aiming for a Christmas 2025 release. Keep your mince pies warm and your mulled wine ready festive magic is on its way, slowly but surely!

Childhood magic revived! I’m thrilled to announce that Humphrey, the self-conscious tortoise I created at age ten, is finally stepping into the world. The brilliant Kylie Dixon MBE will be bringing him to life with her beautiful illustrations. Work begins this November, and I’ll be sharing sneak peeks along the way. Slow and steady wins the race and Humphrey’s adventure is just beginning!

I’m working on my new Christmas novella, The Christmas Rift, featuring two eccentric, unpredictable characters who could be “delightfully quirky” or “completely lost the plot.” Writing about thirty-somethings is a fun change from my usual cast, though the ending is proving tricky. Meanwhile, the Playing with Fire screenplay is moving forward — a pinch-me project fuelled by Yorkshire Tea and far too many Jammie Wagon Wheels.

<p>We have got some fabulous scenes for the screenplay completed and have already had some interest from a couple of production companies. We&#8217;re keeping everything crossed.</p>

<p>Should be hearing any day now when the documentary will be aired on channel 4. We have been told it will be some time in October. Wee bit nervous of it being out in the world but hopeful that it will help many people and with luck help sell some books which in turn will [&hellip;]</p>
